Frequently Asked Questions

What is AP?

AP stands for Advanced Placement. AP gives students the chance to tackle college-level work while they're still in high school—whether they're learning online or in the classroom. And through taking AP Exams, students can earn college credit and placement.

What are the benefits?

AP classes give students a college level experience and the possibility of earning college credit. Students become better readers, writers, and thinkers. They learn how to do advanced work and are held to high expectations. Students say that AP classes allow them to build time management, effective study habits, and problem solving skills.

What can students do to prepare?

Things students can do to prepare for AP classes is read, take honors classes freshman and sophomore year, and stay organized with a planner, highlighters, and sticky notes.

Are there prerequisites?

Most AP classes do have prerequisites. Refer to the “career paths” page on this site to see prereqs for each course. If you're still unsure, ask the teacher who teaches the course you're interested in.

How much does it cost?

Nothing! Ferguson-Florissant School District pays for the exam fees. You can save money in college by earning college credit in HS and skipping intro freshman level classes!
